Two Degrees. Expanded Possibilities.

Samford’s joint Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration program pairs practice-ready clinical expertise in pharmacy with the business preparation needed to lead in health-focused organizations. Whether you plan to pursue a leadership role, own a pharmacy or work in the pharmaceutical industry, this degree strengthens your ability to guide teams, manage finances and shape strategic decisions in health care.

Career Preparation

With a joint PharmD/MBA from 91果冻, you will graduate ready to step into leadership roles across pharmacy and health care. Graduates can pursue careers in:
  • Health system or hospital pharmacy management
  • Pharmacy benefit management and managed care
  • The pharmaceutical industry
  • Consulting or analytics
  • Independent pharmacy ownership

How the PharmD/MBA Works

Through shared credit between the two degrees, you can complete both programs more efficiently:
  • Brock School of Business applies 6 credits of pharmacy coursework toward the MBA curriculum
  • McWhorter School of Pharmacy applies 4 credits of business coursework toward pharmacy elective requirements
  • Students complete 30–39 credits of business coursework
  • Students complete 142 credits of pharmacy coursework
  • MBA online courses offered in this program meet Quality Matters standards

The MBA welcomes students from any academic background, including pharmacy and health care. To receive the MBA, Brock School of Business requires a bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited college or university. Pharmacy students who do not hold a bachelor’s degree may begin the joint program while completing their PharmD.

PharmD/MBA Frequently Asked Questions

Can I graduate with both the PharmD and MBA at the same time?

Yes. Students may receive both degrees in the same semester. You must complete the MBA within seven academic years of your original admission to the MBA program.

How are GPAs calculated for the joint degree?

You will have two separate GPAs: one for business and one for pharmacy. Pharmacy GPA alone determines pharmacy class ranking and percentiles. To remain in good standing in the MBA program, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

What if I decide not to continue with the MBA?

Pharmacy students who choose to discontinue the MBA must notify the McWhorter School of Pharmacy associate dean for academic affairs.

Is there a limit to how many credits I can take each semester?

Yes. Students may register for up to 21 credits per full semester. You may petition the associate dean for academic affairs to exceed this limit.

Can I drop the MBA and still come back to finish it later?

Yes. Brock School of Business will honor shared pharmacy credit if you:

  • Began the joint degree before graduating with the PharmD degree
  • Were in good standing with Brock School of Business
  • Request readmission within one full semester after PharmD graduation to restart MBA coursework
