Since joining Samford in 1995, Heather has worked with students as a career counselor, an academic advisor for undeclared majors, and a director of a program for at- risk freshmen. In her current role, she continues to help clients with their major and career decisions through the administration and interpretation of self-assessments, guided research activities, and the application of decision-making models. She develops a variety of programming and informational materials which encourage students to explore their major and/or career options. She also assists students and alumni in writing effective resumes and honing their interviewing skills. She holds both a Master of Education degree with a concentration in Counseling and Guidance and a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Montevallo. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Birmingham-Southern College. Prior to coming to Samford, she worked in career services at the University of Montevallo, as well as in the private sector in the retail and publishing industries. She is a member of the National Career Development Association. As a member of both the Alabama Counseling Association and the Alabama Career Development Association, she has held leadership positions in both, including having served as Secretary of the state association and as President of the Jefferson/Shelby chapter.
