Christian Education and Missions Concentration | 91¹û¶³
This program is designed to give students a broad, multidisciplinary approach to Christian education within the context of a local church or mission field. The program provides students with both the academic rigor and the practical experience necessary to successfully minister to children and youth.
Is This Program for Me?
This teacher education program is for students who want to integrate service and teaching in an educational mission setting. Candidates are certified to teach students in grades K-6 while gaining a deeper understanding of the integration of biblical principles and teaching strategies. A broad, multidisciplinary approach to Christian education prepares them to teach abroad and equips them for service in missions and non-profit organizations.
What Will I Learn?
Although focused on students ages five to 11, the Elementary Education & Christian Missions degree curriculum will prepare future educators to work with children and youth at many levels. Specifically, knowledge is gained in the following areas.
- Instructional Planning and Assessment
- Curriculum in Christian Education & Missions
- Teaching Methodology
- Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners
- Integrating Technology in Christian Education & Missions
Skills are applied as future educators manage instruction and student behavior and learn to effectively communicate with students and parents during applied experiences in various school and Christian education/church-based settings.
“Education provides a unique pathway to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations. Being a teacher is not just a career; it's a calling.
“As a Christian, my role as an educator is so much more than teaching students reading and math skills. It is investing in the lives of the students I teach so that they experience the love of Christ and the hope we find in Him. Samford's Orlean Beeson School of Education provided me a strong foundation by equipping me with the tools I needed to go confidently out into the world.”
—Abby J., Class of ‘17
