All traffic laws plus additional Samford regulations will be enforced on campus.

It is the responsibility of the student, employee, or contractor to read, understand and obey 91果冻's parking and traffic policies.  University employees are expected to set the example and abide by the university parking and traffic regulations.

Standard rules of the road from the city, county, and state, as well as directive signs and instruction by Transportation Services employees and Public Safety officers, will be observed on campus at all times.

Automobiles

Speed Limit 25 MPH

The speed limit on campus is 25 miles per hour; however, any speed not safe for the conditions of the road, including vehicle/pedestrian congestion and during inclement weather, will be strictly enforced.

All motor vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters, operated on campus, must have a current state license plate and be registered with the Transportation Services.

All motor vehicle operators must have in their possession a valid operator’s license (driver's license), proof of vehicle insurance, and be ready to produce these items when requested by a Public Safety officer.

No Passing

No passing of vehicles, including the SamTram shuttles, will be enforced at all times on campus.

Bicycles

Bicycles and non-motorized personal transportation devices must yield to pedestrians in all designated crosswalks. Pedestrians always have the right-of-way. Bicycles, skateboards, non-motorized scooters and other vehicles are allowed to operate on streets and roadways and are subject to all traffic rules and regulations. Bicycles and scooters should move in the same direction on the same side of the street as other vehicles.

Bicycles and similar devices are subject to citations and may be impounded by Transportation Services employees and/or Public Safety officers if operated, parked and/or secured in an inappropriate manner or location. If abandoned or inoperable these devices will be removed with bolt cutters or other tools resulting in possible damage to the locking device. Any damage to the owner's lock, chain or other device used to secure a bicycle/scooter will not be assumed by the university.

Thirty days after the completion of each semester, all abandoned and/or impounded bicycles and scooters may be sold, donated or used for official university business. The owner of the bicycle/scooter is required to notify Transportation Services at 205-726-4146 to prevent the bicycle or scooter from being properly disposed of.

The university assumes no responsibility for the loss, damage, theft, care or protection of any bicycle or scooter on campus. The owners of these devices assume all risk, loss, or damage.

No Passing

No passing of vehicles, including the SamTram shuttles, will be enforced at all times on campus.

Motorized Scooters

Motorized Scooters are any small, lightweight, motor-powered vehicle designed for individual transport, typically with two wheels and a standing platform. All devices that fall under this definition must be registered with transportation services.

Motorized Scooter may only be operated on the roadway and are subject to the same fines and regulations as any other standard vehicle. You are responsible for but not limited to maintaining speed limits, stopping at stop signs and stop lights, staying within your lane of traffic, and yielding to pedestrians. Only one person at a time may be allowed to operate a Motorized Scooter. When operating at night you must have appropriate visibility equipment such as lights, reflectors, and hi-visibility attire.

Motorized Scooters may not operate on sidewalks or any other pedestrian walkways. Operators are allowed to park/charge at shuttle stops and bicycle stands but must dismount the vehicle when exiting the roadway.

Motorized Scooters are only allowed to be charged/stored in designated locations around campus such as shuttle stops and bicycle racks. Motorized Scooters may not be stored inside any building on campus. This includes but is not limited to dorms, academic buildings, and athletic buildings/venues.

Failure to adhere to Policies regarding Motorized Scooters can result in citations and impoundment by transportation services.

Motorcycles

Pedestrians always have the right-of-way.
